Generator FAQs

Answers to the most common questions we hear from Treasure Coast generator owners.

Generator Questions

How often should a standby generator be serviced?
Most manufacturers recommend annual service — including an oil change, filter replacement, spark plug inspection, battery test, and full system check. In Florida, where generators run harder during storm season, some high-usage units benefit from service every 6 months.
Do you service portable generators?
We currently service Generac and Champion portable generators. Our primary specialization is residential and commercial standby and emergency generator systems.
Do you offer remote generator monitoring?
Remote monitoring is available through eligible PowerCare™ service plans. We do not offer monitoring as a standalone subscription. Options are available for customers with compatible equipment already installed and for plans that include leased monitoring equipment.
What areas does Treasure Coast Generators serve?
We serve Martin, St. Lucie, Indian River, Okeechobee, and northern Palm Beach counties. Our primary service areas include Stuart, Palm City, Jensen Beach, Hobe Sound, Port St. Lucie, Fort Pierce, Vero Beach, Sebastian, Jupiter, Tequesta, Palm Beach Gardens, and surrounding communities.
What is a generator service plan?
A PowerCare™ service plan combines scheduled professional generator maintenance with membership benefits such as priority scheduling and discounts on eligible repairs. Certain plans also include remote monitoring. Available options depend on the generator’s size, type, and monitoring compatibility.
Why did my generator start then shut off?
A generator may start and shut down because of a fault code, low oil pressure, a fuel-supply problem, an engine-speed issue, a failed sensor, or a cooling-system problem on a liquid-cooled unit. Record the displayed fault code before clearing it and contact us for proper diagnosis.
Why won't my generator start?
Common causes include a weak or failed battery, battery-charger problems, insufficient fuel supply or pressure, a starter problem, a failed sensor, or a controller fault lockout. Record any displayed fault code and call us for diagnosis instead of repeatedly attempting to restart the generator.
What brands do you service?
We service and repair all major brands of residential and commercial standby and emergency generators, including Generac, Kohler, Briggs & Stratton, Cummins/Onan, CAT, MTU, Honeywell, and Guardian. Portable-generator service is currently limited to Generac and Champion models.
Do you offer emergency generator service?
Yes. We offer after-hours emergency generator service when availability permits. PowerCare™ members receive priority scheduling, and after-hours service charges apply. Call 772-882-6520 for current availability.
What is a transfer switch and why is it important?
A transfer switch safely transfers the electrical load between utility power and generator power. We test, diagnose, service, and repair generator transfer-switch systems. Electrical installation, wiring, and code-related work is performed or coordinated through our licensed electrical partner.
How long does generator installation take?
Project timing depends on whether the job is a generator replacement, system upgrade, or new installation, as well as permitting, equipment availability, electrical work, and fuel-system requirements. Treasure Coast Generators focuses primarily on generator replacements and system upgrades and coordinates required electrical and gas work with licensed partners.
Do you service commercial generators?
Yes. We service commercial standby generators for businesses, HOAs, condominiums, medical offices, property managers, and more. We offer commercial maintenance contracts tailored to your needs.
Are you a licensed generator contractor in Florida?
Treasure Coast Generators is a fully insured, veteran-owned generator service company specializing in generator maintenance, diagnostics, repairs, and system support. We are factory certified to service Generac, Kohler, and Briggs & Stratton generator systems. Electrical and gas work requiring a contractor’s license is performed or coordinated through our licensed electrical and gas-specialist partners.
